How Tom Survived Download Festival in an AMT Camper
We didn't want "standard." We wanted to build our own way.
When Tom announced he was taking one of our flagship AMT rental vans down to Donington Park for a full week of Download Festival, the workshop had a collective laugh.
Download is legendary for two things: incredible rock music and absolutely brutal, unpredictable weather. We're talking 80,000 fans, zero campsite power hookups, relentless mud, and heavy rain downpours. It was the ultimate real-world torture test for our build quality.
If a custom AMT conversion can survive a week of festival chaos, it can survive anything the Scottish wild can throw at it.

The Off-Grid Power Battle
With no 240v mains hookup in a festival field, you are entirely dependent on your secondary battery bank. Tom’s crew had phones to charge, an electric coolbox running, and internal lights blasting late into the night.
Because we build our electrical grids using smart components, Tom didn't have to guess if the lights were about to cut out. He just checked his phone app, linked directly to our Victron SmartShunt, to see exactly how many milliamps were entering and leaving the system in real time. Between the split-charging system from the engine drive down and the solar roof panels, the power grid never dropped below 75% all week.
Defeating the Damp Swamp Vibe
If you’ve ever camped at a UK festival, you know the dreaded morning dampness. You walk into a standard tent or a poorly ventilated van, and the walls are literally sweating with condensation from wet hoodies, muddy boots, and damp weather.
Tom’s secret weapon? The MaxxFan Deluxe roof vent we install as standard. Even when it was pouring down rain outside, the fan’s unique rain-dome design meant it could stay wide open, quietly exhausting steam and moisture out of the living space while pulling fresh air in. Tom’s gear dried out perfectly, and the van stayed completely bone-dry inside.

The Verdict
The van rolled back into the Hurlford yard covered in a thick layer of Donington mud, but the internal cabinetry was tight, the electrical grid was fully charged, and there wasn't a single loose screw or rattle to be found.
