Raising the Roof: Why We’re Proud to Be Westdub Approved Installers

If there is one single moment in a campervan conversion that makes a self-builder's stomach completely drop, it’s the moment you pick up the air saw, step up to the roof of a perfectly good van, and prepare to cut a massive hole in it. We’ve done it hundreds of times at our Hurlford workshop, and honestly? That feeling of total focus never completely goes away. It shouldn't. Cutting the structural roof out of a vehicle requires absolute precision, flawless sealing, and zero shortcuts.

That’s exactly why we didn't just teach ourselves how to fit pop-tops. We went straight to the source and became a fully qualified, factory-approved Westdub installer.

For us, being "Westdub Approved" isn't just a shiny badge to stick on the wall next to the kettle. It’s a guarantee to our clients that their pride and joy is being handled to strict factory standards.

The Westdub Obsession: Why We Trust Them

In the van conversion world, there are plenty of cheap, unbranded pop-top roofs floating around the internet. They look fine in pictures, but two winters on the wind-battered roads of the Scottish Highlands usually reveals the truth: leaks, whistling fiberglass at 60mph, and canvases that rot if they look at a rain cloud.

Westdubs are an entirely different breed. Engineered right here in the UK, they are built to survive actual British weather. They use high-grade, heavy-duty marine scenic canvas (so you can unzip the front and take in those panoramic coastal views), robust gas struts that don't sag, and an ultra-low-profile fiberglass shell that keeps your van looking clean and fitting under standard height barriers

What Actually Goes Into a Qualified Installation?

Being an approved installer means we don't just bolt the roof down and hope for the best. When a van comes into our facility for a Westdub fitting, it follows a rigorous, factory-certified process:

  1. Structural Laser-Alignment: We measure, mark, and cross-reference the cutting lines down to the millimeter before a blade even touches metal.

  1. Reinforced Frameworking: Cutting the roof removes the structural ribs of the van. We install high-strength steel reinforcement frames to restore the vehicle's structural integrity, ensuring it's completely safe in the event of an accident.

  1. Advanced Weather-Proofing: Scotland knows how to rain. We apply specialized, multi-layered anti-corrosion treatments to the bare cut metal, followed by industrial-grade marine polyurethane adhesives to create an impenetrable, lifetime weather seal.

  1. Flawless Alignment: A poorly aligned roof creates drag, wind noise, and water traps. We hand-align every single latch and strut so the roof pulls down tight and silent against the rubber seals.

Get Creative With Your Scenic View

Because we handle the ordering and installation directly with Westdub, you get total control over the styling. You can match the canvas color to your interior upholstery, opt for a gloss black shell to contrast against a white van, or keep it perfectly color-coded using our in-house bodyshop paint matching.

If you’re ready to add a bedroom with a view to your van but want to make sure it’s done safely, securely, and by a team that actually holds the qualifications—drop us a message or pop down to the Hurlford workshop to chat through layout options for your roof and bedboards!
