Meet "The Beast" – Why We Brought CNC Technology In-House

We didn't want "standard." We wanted to build our own way.

Let’s be honest: when most people think about a custom campervan conversion, they picture a couple of guys in a workshop with a jigsaw, a tape measure, and a prayer. And for a long time, that’s exactly how the industry rolled. You’d mark out your lightweight ply, steady your hand, cut the line, and spend the next two hours sanding down the rough edges to make it fit.

We didn't want "standard." We wanted to build our own way.

So, we bought a giant, green, multi-ton robotic slicing machine, affectionately named The Beast.

By bringing CNC technology completely in-house at our Hurlford facility, we traded off-the-shelf, rattling furniture parts for absolute, bespoke precision. From luxury off-grid flagships to our own rental fleet, we stay completely obsessed with the craft. We work hard, we have a laugh, and we never say a job is too big.

But getting this monster through the workshop doors? That was an entirely different story.

Why This Matters for Your Dream Van

We didn't just buy a shiny new toy to look good on our Instagram feed. Bringing this level of CNC routing in-house completely changes the game for our custom builds and our flat-pack kits:

  • Precision to the Millimeter: No wonky edges, no gaps against the van framework, and absolutely no annoying rattles when you’re driving down bumpy single-track country roads. Everything interlocks with mathematical perfection.
  • Total Creative Freedom: Because we program and cut the sheets right here on the shop floor, we aren't limited by preset manufacturer catalogs. Want a custom storage recess for your specific golf clubs or a unique curves array for your overhead lockers? We map it, tweak it, and cut it instantly.
  • The Best Materials, Handled Right: Premium finishes like Vohringer lightweight ply can easily chip if cut with standard manual tools. The Beast flies through materials like Soft Black, Sage Green, and high-gloss variants, leaving a pristine, edge-band-ready finish every single time.

What's Next?

The Beast hasn't stopped buzzing since it arrived, fabrication slots are booking up fast, and the team is already dreaming up some incredibly wild custom layouts for our upcoming winter build schedule.

If you want to see what proper, precision-engineered cabinetry looks like in the flesh, swing by the Hurlford facility and check out what we're running through the machine this week. Just don't ask to press the big green button—Angus is incredibly protective of it.
